Our story

How Lafayette Pest Control works

Lafayette sits at the center of a service area in Lafayette Parish, and the parish is one of the places where Formosan subterranean termites are established, according to a 1999-2001 Louisiana survey. Most of the spring calls are about swarms at a porch light, and most of the year's calls are about ants, roaches, rodents and wood in the wrong place.

The swarm season in Lafayette Parish runs from late April into June, according to LSU AgCenter, and the AgCenter advises inspecting both the home and the trees after a swarm. The line was built around that calendar, so that a call in May is handled with the same urgency as a call in February.

A written record follows every visit. It says what was found, what was done, what was not reached and when the next check is due. That record is the thing owners and renters ask for later, and it is why the plan is written down from the first call.

Who carries out the work

An independent local partner does the work and holds its own credentials

Lafayette Pest Control is a call line. It takes the call and connects the caller to the nearest independent, licensed local partner that covers the area. The partner's technicians do the pest work at the property, and Lafayette Pest Control does not perform that work itself.

The partner carries the permissions and the compliance for the job. It is the partner that must hold whatever licenses, permits and registrations the work calls for in Louisiana, keep its own insurance and answer to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry for its business license and its applicator certifications.

You can ask for the partner's license number at any time on the phone, or the partner will give it to you when it calls. For the partner's privacy the number is not printed on this site. You can check any number you receive against the department's licensing pages, which is the strongest check you can make.

Values

What we hold ourselves to

Safety is the first question

Every call starts with whether anyone is hurt, whether there is a fire or gas smell and whether children or pets are near the sign.

Evidence is kept

Wings, tubes and photographs are kept with the date and place, because the inspector needs them to follow the trail.

No invented figures

No price is shown on the site or given over the phone before an inspection. Each figure on the site comes from a named source.

Owners and renters both

Rented homes get a written split of the work between owner and tenant, so the job does not stall between the two.

The record outlasts the visit

The written plan and the follow-up dates are what a buyer, a landlord or a later inspector will need, and they are kept on file.

Prevention before panic

The AgCenter advice on wood, mulch and leaks is part of every plan, because it removes the conditions a colony depends on.
